BCGC is under the direction of internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter and musical director Marie Lacey. Marie lives in Belfast with her husband Lynas. They have a 24 year old son Jonathan who lives in Liverpool with his wife Ayca.

Marie has been writing and performing her music for over 30 years. Her powerful soul voice and humorous personality has resulted in her being highly respected amongst her peers. She has performed on radio and numerous BBC and UTV programs.

Her music has taken her throughout Ireland, Europe, South Africa, Thailand, Canada and the USA. She is unashamedly demonstrative when performing; “I am so thankful for the gift of music and the wonderful experiences I’ve had while travelling and performing”.

An accomplished songwriter, Marie has written and directed several musicals, one of which was performed in the Waterfront Hall, Belfast with a cast of over 200. Among Marie's many achievements, she directed a choir of over 600 voices to support James Galway, Lesley Garrett, Andrew Strong and Peter Corry at the Odyssey Arena Belfast. She also performed a duet with Andrew Strong and James Galway was so impressed by Marie that he invited her to perform with him in Downpatrick Cathedral. At the turn of the millennium she was commissioned by the Government to write and direct a Service of Thanksgiving, broadcast live from the Belfast Waterfront Hall by the BBC and attended by HRH Prince Andrew.

When the world renowned gospel artist Jessy Dixon toured in Belfast, Marie was asked to put together a gospel choir to back him. He was amazed at the authentic gospel sound Marie created. It has always been her dream to form and direct her own professional gospel choir, a dream that became a reality in the summer of 2009 when she auditioned over 130 singers from which she created the Belfast Community Gospel Choir.
